How cool is this state?
There I was sitting in the local art house movie theatre. In comes a guy who asks if he can take the two seats next to me. So I move my coat and prepare to be annoyed that I've lost that nice empty spread out space... when who should arrive to sit in the seat next to me?
The brand new Lt. Governor, who by the way is the highest ranking female ever in state government. And what does she say? "Oh I didn't recognize you in the dark with long hair."
It's fun to live in a tiny little place.
All in all a much more pleasant encounter than when the former governor/billionaire cut in front of my mother and me in the line at Dunkin' Donuts this fall. |

I'm pretty sure this is completely taken from an episode of the British TV show, Bad Girls. Love comes when and where you least expect it:

Who knew they had arsonists in Flanders? |

Amazing how far back we've slid. |

This year I kind of misplaced my previous book recommender... So I'm in search of book recommendations for the new year. Do you have any?
It's not that I'm shallow, but I'm shallow. So I'm looking for genre books... mystery, romance, sci-fi, even fantasy.
Suggestions? |
| » I won! I won! |
Who would have believed it? Certainly not me. But I won the Championship of my CBSSports Fantasy Football league today. Get this my league was called "Women Can Like Football Too" and was filled with women who made trades, drafted free agents and did all those other hardcore fantasy league things. Meanwhile, I, who had never played fantasy football before, and who knows next to nothing about the players in the NFL, just plugged along slowly and steadily. And I WON!!!
This is completely reminding me of some movie reference, but I can't for the life of me think of what it is. Oh well.
Merry and Happy to you all!

Several small item things...
1) Can anyone point me to a Rose icon along the lines of "I've been attacked by a Scribble" from the "Fear Her" episode of Series 2 Doctor Who?
2) For those who were wondering... heck yes Torchwood is dark. Talk about grim, we're in this battle and there's no way it's going to end in anything but death for each of us, kind of dark. I mean no way to die, Yorkshire pudding as soylent green, Cybermen in the basement.... dude, it's dark.
2a) Meanwhile, House is dark in a whole nother way (yes that's spelled correctly)
2b) Although Torchwood at least is a veritable festival of bisexuality... HoHoHoYay
3) Mary Cheney pregnant. Lynne Cheney grandmother to a little "Heather Has Two Mommies" bundle of joy. BWHHHHHHAAAAAAA. Too bad grandma and grandpa have spent the last 20 years making your life immeasurably harder, kiddo.
4) What's it with the Christmas season and "personal therapeutic devices"? I mean the best way to know the season is upon us is to notice that the "personal massagers" have been moved to the front end caps at CVS. But to watch Rosie, Elizabeth, Joy and even Barbara Walters(!) making vibrator jokes at 11 in the morning, and then to hear that St. Martha of Connecticut (the Domestic Diva herself) was chatting with Howard Stern about her recent $1200 purchase named "Thumper" ... Damn but the world has tipped on its axis.
5) You've officially gone over the edge when you have to buy a network storage device because you've been downloading too many British TV series.

| » Twelve Days of Christmas |
Okay so my version was really kind of boring, except for two lines:
On the twelfth day of Christmas, Blithedale sent to me... Five ana-a-a-adandys ...and a tivo in a pear tree. </form>
and in other news...
One exam and one paper left in the semester
One possible job interview
One lingering headcold
and a Tivo in a pear tree...

Apparently people from Woonsocket are kind of a quirky lot to world over.
The news this morning out of Woonsocket, South Dakota (yes you read that right):
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15622299/
PIERRE, S.D. - A woman who died two months ago won a county commissioner's race in Jerauld County on Tuesday.
Democrat Marie Steichen, of Woonsocket, got 100 votes, defeating incumbent Republican Merlin Feistner, of Woonsocket, who had 64 votes.
Jerauld County Auditor Cindy Peterson said she believes the county board will have to meet to appoint a replacement for Steichen. Peterson said she'll check with the state's attorney to be sure that's the process.
And yes, Woonsocket SD is named after Woonsocket RI.
